Upright Or Chest Freezers – Which To Choose?

Posted in: Uncategorized |

When we are looking for a new freezer, we often think about which type should we buy for our needs. Here are some things to think about. Chest freezers have a larger footprint (take more floor space) than uprights, sometimes twice as much space. If you live in an apartment, this will certainly be a major consideration in your final decision.

You shouldn't stack your stuff on top of chest freezers because it is not a convenient thing to do. I know that you will quickly lose this habit, once you have to remove all those paint cans and forgoten laundry with several books from the top of your freezer because you suddenly remembered there is a good dinner for you inside.

But the good news is that a small chest freezer will cost you less in the start, will save more energy while it works, and will give more space for you to use for whem compared to upright freezer. The problem appears when they are fully loaded and you need to find something in there. Swimming through a frozen chest freezer that induces negative self-talk and frustration is not much of a joyride. This happened to me several times, although I have marked every item with care. There were many ocasions I had to search through the frozen meat and vegetables with my frozen fingers while my feet were in the air. Appliances never gave so much bad vibes as this does. Freezer space is there so no one can hear you scream. Only your family members who are standing right behind you, laughing and listening you scream.

And uprights still have some major advantages over chest freezers. Like I said before, you will fill them easier and you can find items a whole lot more easier. It won't be necesarry for you to search for a lifetime through a freezer just because you need to find an item you bought last month. Advantage is that many uprights have auto defrosting ability. Most chest freezers are manual defrost, and even though you only usually need to do it about once a year, defrosting one can be a tedious, hours-long task.

No matter what option you choose, it is important that you keep it safe. A freezer can last for a long time if you do it right.
